Communal Memorial Service: Expression of Interest

Creating a communal space to remember those we’ve lost.

We’ve just passed the two-year anniversary of my wife Imogen’s death. It still doesn’t make sense. It seems like only yesterday. It seems like a century ago.

But life has slowly taken on a new shape — one where there is space to create something in her memory, which I hope will help others who have lost a loved one.

For some time I’ve been sitting with an idea:

What if there was a communal memorial service for those who’ve lost someone they love?

A gathering where you could remember — even years later — with the people who knew and loved them. A service organised for mourners, so you don’t have to do it alone.

At the moment, I’m still in the planning stage so would love to speak to people who are bereaved, and to hear from people who are interested.

  • Is there someone you’d like to remember?

  • Does this seem useful?

  • How could it be made even more useful?

If that’s you, then please click on the big button below.

The event (which will need a name) would be a chance to:

  • Keep remembering – As time passes, it can feel harder to keep memories alive. My boys are still so young, so I know this can be a long-term project.

  • Lighten the load – When someone dies, the ability to organise or host often disappears. This would be something you can simply show up to, and still mark your person’s life.

  • Share stories – Imogen changed so many lives. It feels unfair to keep those stories to ourselves. I’d love to create a space where we can keep telling them, along with the stories of other brilliant people who left too soon.

  • Rebuild community – Grief can be isolating. It severs connections, not because people don’t care, but because they don’t know how to stay close. This event would be a gentle invitation to bring your people back together.

  • Support Charities - the event would be an opportunity to raise funds for excellent charities that support people in great need.

The first service is planned for London in September, with readings, music, and shared remembrance.

If this speaks to you — whether you're nearby or far away — I’d love you to get in touch.

The proceeds will go to:

Please also share this with anyone else who might be interested.

Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing from you.
